11 Ix, 11th day in the 13-day Kanhoh (Canoe) Week
11 Ix, (Chorti'/Quiche/Yucatec): Mother Earth. Glyph of earth god or corn.
11 Ocelotl (Aztec): Jaguar
Direction: North
Note: Ix is a female god spirit in Chorti and refers to being split open (i.e. corn). Ix is the only day sign which is shared in Chorti', Quiche, and Yucatec Maya, which shows how old it is. These languages took different courses by 1500 BC if not earlier. The earth sign ix became associated with the jaguar after the pellegra crisis, the period in which there was an epidemic of niacin deficiency which came from relying too much on corn in the diet. Corn came from Mother Earth. Pellegra causes the body to become lesioned with spots like a jaguar and eventually is deadly. This was resolved when nixtamalization (which means, 'ridding the corn of ix') was discovered.
Kanhoh Week: This week was transformed from Katu' (moon diety) to Kanhoh (canoe) between 3000 BC and 1800 BC when the Mayans began their great traveling ventures to spread their knowledge of agriculture. There was probably a rhyme associated with this shift, like "Katu' K'anhuh, Katbu K'an a'n, K'aht Kanhoh" or "on moon and iguana, cross over with golden ripe corn, by bridge and canoe" (doesn't quite work in English). Kanhoh week will usually be a Mars retrograde week every third tzolkin, as it is now. At the next Kanhoh week in 260 days, Mars will be an evening 'star' almost to disappear from the sky, and 260 days later, Mars will be a morning 'star'.Taken together, Ix in Kanhoh week emphasizes the need to tread lightly on the earth as we travel - as light as a canoe gently splitting the water of a river.
Acajutla High Tides: 11:16 AM and 11:26 PM
Semi-diurnal
Tide
range (Difference in High/Low Tides): 1.02 meters average, at lowest point. Will be at next low point in 13 days - on 11th day of the next week. Time for working in fields while fishing and crabbing are not good.
