7 Kilis, 7th day in the 13-day Tzi' (Dog) Week
7 Kilis (Chorti'): Falcon, bearer of the eclipse. Glyph of a shell
7 Ajmak (Quiche) / 7 Kib (Yucatec Maya): Falcon
7 Cozcacuauhtli (Aztec): Vulture
Direction: South
Note: For the Chorti, Ah Kilis, or 'falcon man' or 'falcon god' ruled the eclipses by eating the sun or moon. This would be the bat falcon rather than the rarer orange-breasted falcon. The shell is a symbol for 'empty', 'zero', and eclipse. In this case, the shell glyph represents a sky made empty by the falcon god eating the sun or the moon.
Many Mayan ballcourts have a falcon perched above, which serves as a messenger from 'Heart of Sky'. 'Heart of Sky' refers to the center of the Milky Way galaxy, which the Mayas were able to locate with accuracy through the Mars retrograde long count calendar. The Mayans interpreted eclipses as the time that the falcon brings a message from the void, the heart of the Milky Way.
Tzi' Week: In this hemisphere, dogs accompanied and guided early people from the north as the only domesticated animal - the earliest companion to humans. Tzi' also represents Sirius, the dog (guide) star. When Venus is not visible it is the brightest object in sky, aside from the sun and moon. Tracking Sirius through the elliptic the Mayans were able to predict precession of the solar system through the galactic elliptic. This is, in part, how the Mayans were able to set their calendar to end one cycle and begin a new cycle in December 2012. Today, Sirius disappears from the sky in April and reappears in the early morning sky in June in Central America. Its reappearance would have been an indicator to plant, just after the rainy season had started.
Kilis in Tzi': By using calendars and math and writing down their observations of stars, planets, the sun and moon over long periods of time, the Mayans and other Mesoamerican people were able to predict eclipses with startling accuracy.
Acajutla High Tides: 4:40 AM and 5:10 PMSemi-diurnal Tide range (Difference in High/Low Tides): 2.38 meters average and at its greatest. These are the highest tides since before the last eclipse period. Great fishing today and tomorrow.
