3 Chan, 3rd day in the 13-day Akbar (Night) Week
9 Chan (Chorti): Serpent
3 Kan (Quiche) / 3 Chikchan (Yucatec)
3 Coatl (Aztec): Head of Serpent
Direction: East
Note: Chan is the totem for the Ch'orti' Maya. Just as we recently celebrated daysigns named after two of the four Mesoamerican founders, Ik and Akbar, this day celebrates Jaguar Qitze, one of the two founders of the Maya lineages. This daysign was likely also called Hor Chan, or head serpent, in homage to the founder of the clan.
Akbar Week: Balam Akbar or Night Jaguar was one of the four leaders that founded the Mayan-Mesoamerican civilizations. The nation that he founded was also called the Greathouses, possibly due to the large or long houses that they lived in. The Greathouses lived near the ocean on El Salvador's eastern coast and became a great sailing people. Most of the great Mesoamerican peoples, other than the Mayans, come from the Balam Akbar lineage.
Night Sky: Venus is just now reappearing as a morning star where it will be for nearly one tzolkin (260-day cycle).
Acajutla High Tides: 12:00 AM and 12:52 PMSemi-diurnal Tide range (Difference in High/Low Tides): 1.05 meters average and increasing.
